Who handles the advertised care?
How do I check a Florida licence?
Request the assessing person’s full name, profession, and licence details.
Where is the public record?
Florida’s health department offers free searches called License Verification, Practitioner Profile, and Discipline & Admin Actions.
Start with License Verification to check the licence. Practitioner means a health professional; a profile is a background summary about that person.
Discipline & Admin Actions means public records of penalties or limits on a licence. Use the person search for your doctor and the establishment search for a pharmacy.
The Florida search includes people such as doctors, nurses, physician assistants, and pharmacists, as well as establishments such as pharmacies.
Which board has my doctor’s record?
DO stands for Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, a type of doctor qualification. Use those letters to find the right licence record.
As of September 2026, Florida medical doctors use the Board of Medicine for licences. Doctors with a DO qualification use the Board of Osteopathic Medicine.
Both doctor-licensing boards are within the Florida Department of Health.
Match the name and profession on the record to the person who will assess you. Check whether the licence is current and has any limits.
Read any public record of penalties or restrictions. If you cannot tell whether the person may provide your care, ask the licensing board to explain.
Does a clear record settle everything?
The Federation of State Medical Boards explains that a clean public record is not a judgement of a doctor’s skill.
Keep asking about the assessment, proposed medicine, follow-up, and full cost. The licence check answers a narrower question.
